Economic Engine of the Gulf South

COVID-19 has not just affected health but also the economy. In New Orleans that threat is amplified because of high poverty rates, social inequity and the high cost of living. Your generosity to any the following initiatives can help Tulane positively impact the entire region.

Charity Hospital Redevelopment

For 14 long years, Charity Hospital has sat shuttered at a critical intersection of the health sciences center in downtown New Orleans. Now, Tulane has the opportunity to become one of the anchor tenants of this massive redevelopment project – using a significant amount of the space for student housing, office and lab space. The work on Charity is just the first step in what city leaders hope will be a broader revitalization of the section of the CBD near South Claiborne Avenue. The overall development has the ability to serve as the hub for Tulane research with effects reaching far beyond its walls. The Charity Hospital Redevelopment can potentially positively impact a vital section of the New Orleans community.

Bridge Funding

Bridge funding helps to sustain our most productive researchers and their projects when there are gaps in financing sources. Your support would help see those projects through. Bridge funding has an extraordinary track record of successfully attracting competitive national funding. For example, since 2006, the Tulane Office of Research has invested $2.83 million in bridge fund awards with a net return of $36.91 million.

Entrepreneurship and Scientific Discovery

In today’s competitive global economy, breakthrough scientific discoveries are fueling engineering innovation at an accelerating pace. The multidisciplinary nature of Tulane creates a supportive environment to set innovators and entrepreneurs up for success, which in turn fuels the economy. By leveraging the benefits that emerge when scientists and engineers work shoulder‐to‐shoulder to develop comprehensive and integrated solutions, the school attracts top faculty in a variety of disciplines including human health and cognition, energy and environment, advanced materials and devices and computational modeling. Understanding that the single most important driver in the 21st‐century economy is innovation – as discoveries in technology disrupt and forever alter our relationships, our environments and our society – Tulane plays a significant role in efforts to diversify local and regional economies.
